(December 15, 1610 C April 25, 1690), a Flemish artist born in Antwerp, was the more celebrated son of David Teniers the Elder, almost ranking in celebrity with Rubens and Van Dyck. His son David Teniers III and his grandson David Teniers IV were also painters. His wife Anna nee, Anna Breughel was the daughter of Jan Brueghel the Elder and the granddaughter of Pieter Bruegel the Elder. Through his father, he was indirectly influenced by Elsheimer and by Rubens. The influence of Adriaen Brouwer can be traced to the outset of his career. There is no evidence, however, that either Rubens or Brouwer interfered in any way with Teniers's education, and Smith (Catalogue Raisonne) may be correct in supposing that the admiration which Brouwer's pictures at one time excited alone suggested to the younger artist his imitation of them. WITTE, Emanuel de
Dutch Baroque Era Painter, ca.1617-1691 Dutch painter. He was one of the last and, with Pieter Saenredam, one of the most accomplished 17th-century artists who specialized in representing church interiors. He trained with Evert van Aelst (1602-57) in Delft and in 1636 joined the Guild of St Luke at Alkmaar, but he was recorded in Rotterdam in the summers of 1639 and 1640. In October 1641 his daughter was baptized in Delft, where he entered the Guild of St Luke in June 1642 and lived for a decade, moving to Amsterdam c. 1652. He began his long career as an unpromising figure painter, as can be seen in the Vertumnus and Pomona (1644) and two small pendant portraits (1648; all Rotterdam, Mus. Boymans-van Beuningen). Carl d Unker
(3 February 1828 - 23 June 1866)was a Swedish artist. He was mostly known as a socially oriented genre painter whose works were contemporary subjects of his time, like waiting rooms at railway stations, and scenes from pawnshops for example. D'Unkers father was a Norwegian military, his mother Swedish. He began his career as a military and had served at the Svea Life Guards for a short time, when he in 1848 volunteered in the First Schleswig War 1848-1849. Shortly after his return to Sweden he abandoned his military path and went to the arts. He moved to Desseldorf to study painting, there he got married to a wealthy Russian woman and could live a carefree life financially. He became a very popular artist on the continent. From 1861 he suffered from sickness in his right arm so he had to paint with his left arm. He made a brief visit to Sweden in 1865, and was appointed professor by Swedish king Charles XV. The following year he died.
